I was on my way home on the MRT. 2 seats emptied at Raffles Place so I sat down, along with another man in his 40s or 50s next to me. I took out my Japanese Grammar book to study when I heard a "日本語を勉強していますか?"
For a moment I thought I 幻聽.
He asked me why I learn Japanese, what anime/dorama I like, and when I told him I like Arashi he actually said he likes Gantz so he likes Nino.
So cool!
We spoke a bit, half in Japanese and half in English. He came from Kyoto and was travelling alone. Today's his 3rd day and he's flying back on Jetstar tonight.
We sort of stopped talking when we reached Bugis. Before he alighted at Aljunied, he said I am like a Japanese and my Japanese is good.
日本語が上手で日本人みたいです。
I know he's just being very 客氣, but nothing beats hearing the compliment from a native Japanese.
Exciting!
